Common Questions

How much does commercial solar cost in Calgary?

The cost depends on your building size, energy usage, and system design. Most commercial installs range from $50,000 to $500,000+, but thanks to federal grants, the Greener Homes Loan, and CEIP, you may qualify for $0 down financing.

How long does it take to install a commercial solar system?

From the initial consultation to final connection, the process usually takes 8 to 14 weeks, depending on permitting, weather, and project size. Installation itself typically takes a few days to two weeks.

Will solar actually save my business money?

Yes. Most of businesses here in Calgary see a positive return on investment within 5 to 8 years, with savings continuing for 25+ years. We provide a custom ROI report that includes projected savings, utility offsets, and payback period.

Do I have to pay anything upfront?

Not necessarily. Many commercial clients qualify for $0 down through CEIP, leasing, or the Greener Homes Loan. We’ll walk you through all your financing options and help with the paperwork.

Can you install on flat commercial rooftops?

Absolutely. We specialize in both flat and pitched roof systems, as well as ground-mount and carport installations. We’ll recommend the best fit for your site and goals.

What happens if something breaks or underperforms?

We offer real-time monitoring, performance guarantees, and local support. If anything goes wrong, our team is on it—fast. We also offer optional maintenance plans for long-term peace of mind.

What rebates or incentives are available?

You may be eligible for:

Canada Greener Homes Loan (0% interest financing)
Commercial CEIP program (property tax–based repayment)
Accelerated depreciation (CCA Class 43.1/43.2)

We handle all application paperwork on your behalf.

Will solar affect my roof warranty?

No. We install systems in compliance with roofing manufacturer guidelines, and we coordinate with your roofer if needed. We also offer optional roof-preserving mounting systems if your roof is aging.

Can I write this off for taxes?

Yes. Commercial solar systems are eligible for capital cost allowance (CCA), meaning you can depreciate the system and reduce your taxable income. We can coordinate with your accountant if needed.

How Does CCA (Capital Cost Allowance) Work for businesses here in Calgary?

1. CCA Classes for Solar:

Class 43.1
: 30% depreciation rate (declining balance)

Class 43.2: 50% depreciation rate (accelerated — introduced for clean energy investments)Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems installed in Canada, including in Alberta, typically qualify under Class 43.2 if they meet efficiency standards and are installed before 2035 (as per current federal rules). After that, they may revert to Class 43.1 unless extended.

You can depreciate 50% of the remaining balance each year, dramatically reducing your taxable income in the early years of ownership.
